WIMBERLEY FLOODS

Did development along the Blanco River worsen flooding that killed 13 people and wiped out parts of Wimberley in 2015?

new study says so. Wimberley, the Central Texas town that’s located in “Flash Flood Alley” — known as one of the most flood-prone regions of the continent — is also part of Hays County, one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation.

Does this ring a bell? A 2016 investigation by the Texas Tribune and ProPublica found that unchecked development has worsened flooding in the Houston area — and that climate change has led to more frequent and severe rainstorms.
